Get your NFL and College Football Picks for the week, and take ’em to the bank.
Welcome to another “Football Picks & Thoughts” entry. I’m so glad to have you stop by — make yourself at home.
Maestro’s Music Box
I like to add music to for you to check out. This week, I added a short snippet of a song I’ll be releasing as a single before the season is done.
Click on “Getaway II” and let me know what you think!!
I didn’t fare as well last weekend as the week prior. My apologies.
NFL Picks Review – Week 1
I tallied 1-2 for the weekend stinks, BUT, I’ll gladly take wins by my two favorites — Pittsburgh and Carolina.
Brief Thought on Carolina/NY J-E-T-S
Sam Darnold was just above “serviceable” on Sunday. He really needs to work on goalline passing accuracy.
Zach Wilson showed a lot of promise in the 2nd half, once the coaching staff made some protection adjustments.
College Picks Review – Week 2
Although the week was less than stellar (1-2), I still have you in the black at 4-2 overall.
I was very “ACC” proud of Pitt football. Thanks for giving us something to cheer about.
The rest of the league, however…?
NC State 💩 Again
I typed up a long, soapbox of thought around my disgust of the NC State game in Starkville on Monday. That, along with the passing of time, has mellowed my frustration.
In short — “Wildcats have their place in the world – just not in the NC State playbook, and ESPECIALLY not at the goalline.”
Virginia looks good, but it’s tough to get an accurate on ’em. But, they LOOK the part of a Coastal Division contender.
It’s picks time, folks!!
College Football Picks / Week 3
1-2 last week / 4-2 overall
NORTHWESTERN (-2.5) at Duke
Speaking of “Wildcats”, these are the kind that’ll line up on both sides of the ball and bully Duke into 4th quarter submission, if the Blue Devils aren’t careful.
Combine that with senior leadership at QB (Hunter Johnson) for Northwestern, and I’m surprised the line’s only -2.5 (opened at -2).
I’ll lay ’em.
This has the look of a “last drive wins” kind of game.
Florida State at WAKE FOREST (-4.5)
Let’s recall, shall we:
Florida State paid Jacksonville State $400,000 tonight. Then they lost pic.twitter.com/eDsHwsCkKs— Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) September 12, 2021
These Florida State guys aren’t quite right.
Sidebar: Former ECU head coach Bill Lewis, 30 years ago, took his “We Believe” 11-1 “Peach Bowl winning” success to Georgia Tech.
His “disciplinarian” style worked wonders in Greenville.
It fell flat in the “Flats”, and he was gone a couple of years later, and basically never heard from again.
I wonder if that same thing is happening in Tallahassee with Mike Norvell and/or his staff. These guys aren’t responding the way Norvell’s Memphis players did.
Wake Forest (I hope??) is just a shade more talented than Jacksonville State.
Lay the points.
VIRGINIA (+8) at North Carolina
What I do know about both of these teams is this:
- I can easily see Virginia’s secondary frustrating Carolina’s unproven WRs.
- I can also see Virginia spying on Sam Howell (the runner)
- North Carolina’s defense will stymie UVA’s rushing game
All of that means 8 points is too big a spread, so I’ll take ’em.
I also think Bronco has Mack Brown’s number.
NFL Picks / Week 2
1-2 last week / 1-2 overall
Denver at JACKSONVILLE (+6)
The line opened at Denver -2.5 then shot all the way up to -6.
I’ll be the contrarian here and grab these 6, while watching Urban Meyer continue to masquerade as an NFL coach.
Las Vegas at PITTSBURGH (-6)
It’s best, often times, to leave well enough alone, Mr. Carr.
DALLAS (+3.5) at L.A. Chargers
I know Vegas knows what they’re doing, but how in the world is Dallas getting anything north of a point, given what we saw last Thursday night?
Unless Vegas, like the rest of us, think THAT low of Mike McCarthy.
That is all for this week. Thanks, as always, for stopping by.
