Giving Thanks, Football Picks, Etc – 11/24/2021

A “Happy Thanksgiving” filled with ‘hot takes’, good music, and football picks.

ECU can contribute to the “chaos” on Friday afternoon…

College Football Picks – Week 13

Last go-round (Wk. 11): 1-2 / Overall: 17-16

Thanks to my alma mater — East Carolina — for helping me get the only ‘win’ for the week.

It’s good to see the Pirates return to bowl eligibility and have excitement return to Greenville. Kudos to HC Mike Hudson.

Up next is a golden opportunity for ECU to have a direct impact on the College Football Playoff field — a date with Cincinnati.

So kick off the Week 13 picks there…

EAST CAROLINA (+14) vs #4 Cincinnati

One of these days, I’ll spend an entire post talking about some of the best games I’ve seen at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium (or Dowdy Stadium, as it was named when I was a student).

I hope the pressure of receiving the #4 ranking is too much for Cincinnati to bear on Friday afternoon.

North Carolina at #20 NC State – UNDER 62.5

I told a buddy of mine that I was taking the OVER, for this game. But, and for his sake, I think NC State wins.

If that is, in fact, the case, the score will be similar to the Carolina/Pitt game — right around 30-23.

I think this game is going to be more of a defensive chess-match type of a game — and less of a shoot-out.

KENTUCKY (+3) at Louisville

Why? Because I think the Wildcats are the best team in the Commonwealth. That thought leads me to…

ACC Coaching Hot Seat

ACC coaches who look to have a warm seat at season’s end:

Scott Satterfield (Louisville)

Why? Questions about commitment to UL (‘coaching search’ wandering eyes a couple years ago) + mediocre results the last two seasons.

Like I stated earlier, Kentucky is the better football program now — and that can’t be sitting well in Louisville.

Dino Babers (Syracuse)

Why? Hasn’t been able to turn the Orange around, despite chances to do so. I think a loss to Pitt will be the final “nail”. Especially if Pitt sits its starters.

David Cutcliffe (Duke)

Why? Sub-par showings the last 2-3 seasons, combined with a new AD.

I’m not privy to anything, but it just “looks” a lot like the end of the Jim Grobe era at Wake Forest.

Justin Fuente (Virginia Tech)

Already gone.

Conspicuously absent from this list:

Manny Diaz (Miami). The “U” has other issues to solve (e.g. hiring an Athletic Director)

Mike Norvell (FSU) – FSU has shown enough glimpses of “promise” this season.
